Tired of printing…

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

I've been printing for the past few weeks. I've been making 11x14's of a series of images, I have 8 printed so far, just 4 more to go. Then I'm going to be make several mural prints; probably a couple 30x40's and one 40x60.

But I miss shooting, I've slowed down too much recently.

On a random note, I'm loving Haligh, Haligh, A Lie, Haligh by Bright Eyes.

I shot a roll of Ektachrome with a Canonet. Pushed it one stop and cross processed it, not really happy with how it came out, but a few shots were ok.

I'm also tired of making street shots at school, it bores me to death.

RGY03157

This was at karaoke a few weeks back...

RGY03170

During a crit at school. No bad comments for this class.

RGY03171

There is a cat in my sink.

RGY03178

Should be self-explanatory:

RGY03179

At school, again, boring.

RGY03181

I organized, hung, and exhibited in a gallery at school. The theme of the exhibition was Home. This is when the lighting was being changed.

RGY03182

RGY03183

No one was hurt, thankfully. :P

RGY03184

RGY03185

Then, this was in Montrose.

RGY03186

I'm in both (^ that one) and the one below. My mom's the one behind me.

RGY03187

The restaurant had a nice feel to it. Lot of older people, but older people are the ones whose faces tell stories, so it's all good.

RGY03188

RGY03189

The sculpture thing was neat. Wish the lighting was better, but I still enjoy this shot.

RGY03191

School. is so boring. I guess this is about a palm tree? Can't exactly escape them in so cal..

RGY03192

Dishes, primarily coffee mugs.

RGY03193

I shot this because I was already getting bored and wanted to shoot something. It was f/1.4 at 1/1000th. I knew the negative would be dense, but I doubt it's worth it to try and print it.

RGY03194

The light leaked over into the next frame:

And, that's all. I'm almost finished with this roll in my camera.

I find it hard to comment on these..

I've been intrigued by window light like this.

Switched to Portra 160 NC.

RGY02521

At Dana Point Harbor.

RGY02522

Shop had a very cozy feel to it, compared to the rest I saw, at least.

RGY02523

RGY02524

Sort of disappointed in the water spots on it, too lazy to get rid of them.

RGY02525

My brother. I don't think it's possible for me to hold my camera perfectly straight.

RGY02534

I had to hop backwards after that or I would have gotten wet too.

RGY02536

RGY02537

I don't have many words for these. I do know I'd like to shoot more beaches, though. Bruce Gilden's Coney Island work is inspiring enough. I think I'd rather shoot in color though.

RGY02539

RGY02540

Yea, I missed the focus, so what.

RGY02541

Probably the shot I'm most happy with from this roll.

RGY02543

RGY02544

RGY02546

RGY02547

My sister used my Holga that day. The roll came out quite well. Really need a scanner capable of scanning medium format.

RGY02549

Later that day I finished the roll at my Uncle's house. Newly moved in. They've got a nice view of the sunset from their backyard. There's also a family of young hawks. They didn't come out until after I finished the roll, though.

RGY02550

Finishing the roll I started (from the beginning of the post)

RGY02572

Think I nailed the exposure here.

RGY02573

Wide eyes.

RGY02574

Waiting.

RGY02576

He just sat there.

RGY02580

At the optometrist.

RGY02582

My eyes are terrible and when I go I have to take my contacts out. Last time and this one I ventured to take a couple shots practically blind and they came out just fine.

RGY02583

RGY02584

She wanted to try on green colored contacts.

RGY02585

I went and saw a lecture by Steve McCurry here.

RGY02595

There was a guy in the front row I saw shooting with an M8 (whose shutter sounded significantly different than I expected) but other than that everyone else was shooting huge dslr's.

RGY02597

RGY02599

At the book signing afterwards. I would have bought a book of his, but I'm broke so I didn't. Also, they were charging far more than what you can get them for on amazon. One guy came prepared with 3 books.

RGY02600

The lady that took this had never used a Leica before and didn't realize I was using film until after she shot it. She was really concerned, "so I can't check to see if it turned out well?" I prefocused for her and set the exposure so all she had to do was hit the shutter. I reassured her that I was positive it would come out.

I also had Steve McCurry sign my Leica, since I had nothing else of significance for him to sign. He did ask me after, "is this film or digital?"

RGY02601

My brother saw me take that one and he said "are you sure that's going to come out?" Exposure time was 1/4s at f/1.4. I told him, "I'm positive."

My cat is weird.

An art show and a roll of color.

Annual art show at school. There was a whole room of little sculpture things made like this. I liked this one the most so I made a photo of it. Possibly inspired by the upcoming movie, but everything was based on children's stories.

RGY02098

My mural print hanging in the reject show.

RGY02101

Bed.

RGY02116

I've been wanting to take a picture of this sign for a while now. I finally got it. When I was driving past it the other way it was too close and I couldn't get it. But on the other side of the street it worked perfectly!

RGY02118

Cat, sleeping. They do that a lot.

RGY02125

Back at the art show. I went back through the gallery 3 times I think, showing it off to different people. This time I ran into Libby Gerber, a CSUN graduate student. She was watering her piece, which I thought was the most amazing thing.

RGY02129

RGY02130

RGY02131

I bought two rolls of Portra 160 NC because I loved the way it looks.

Home.

RGY02134

Home, also. I liked how the light reflected from the house to the street. Didn't make for that interested of an image, but I had to make it anyway, just to see what it would look like!

RGY02136

One of the last class meets for my photography class. Friend looking at one of my pieces. This larger one I do quite like.

RGY02137

These smaller two, not so much..

RGY02138

Really close crop. (yes, i cropped something :|) Thought this was cool and didn't find out until later that I know the person that did it! Her name is Niku. It's called invisibox. I'd love to see more things done like this on our campus or anywhere really. Electricity boxes or whatever looks so bland being painted a solid color.

160 speed film holds up really well to being cropped!

RGY02139-crop

We spent like 4 hours at this boba place, discussing screenplays, photography and other things that I can't recall. I underexposed this, I think. The colors are cool, though.

RGY02140

This lady was there for like an hour. I really don't know why the person she was talking to didn't just come out around and talk to her, it's not like it was busy..

RGY02141

RGY02142

We finally left.

RGY02143

Back home. I really want to print this one.

RGY02144

Scamper, grass, garden hose, tree shadow, leaves.

RGY02145

Tree, sun, sky, power line.

Really want to print this one as well.

RGY02146

This one didn't turn out as well as I had wanted.

RGY02147

These are boring.

RGY02148

Chair with cat.

RGY02149

This is my final project for my 2D design class. Wanted to document it being worked on at some stage. Over on the right the large spill was still drying (you can see the pool of paint below).

RGY02150

Backyard. These squash plants appeared out of nowhere, no one planted them! There's also tomatoes over on the other side that came up. We think the squash are pumpkins. But there's also another plant mixed in there as well.

RGY02151

My room.

RGY02152

Me.

RGY02155

CSUN Parking Lot.

RGY02156

Fatburger.

RGY02159

More squash.

RGY02163

Scamper.

RGY02168

So many more images to post in queue, but this'll be all for now. Hope you enjoyed reading and viewing them. :)
